Dave,
Thanks for the heads up.
Do you think it might help letting the Section Managers know
this also so they can be prepared if members question them?
Best wishes for better 2009!

Subject: [arrl-odv:17420] Heads-up re membership email glitch
During a Web database
restoration two weeks ago, something happened – we’re not quite sure what it was – that caused some old email records of membership renewal acknowledgments to be reloaded into an active file.
This resulted in some
members – we
don’t know how many but we’ve heard from about 20 so far – receiving a duplicate email
of one that they had
been sent when they renewed some
time ago. The duplicates bear the original date but cause confusion,
particularly if the recipient does not
notice the old date or if their membership has expired in the meantime. Adding
to the confusion is the
fact that the messages are signed by Katie Breen, who of course has left the
staff.
When members contact us
about this the customer service team verifies
their current membership status, apologizes, and advises them to ignore the message.
We hope we have figured out
how to avoid a recurrence. It’s too much to hope that 2009 will be
glitch-free but we’ll try!
