I realize that Fred asked for input from fellow Directors, but..... I have known Randy for over 40 years. He is a broad thinker, is not rigid in his views, and is inclusive in his approach. I completely agree with Bill's comments. Randy has a wide range of experience and knowledge of contesting. He can view issues from many different aspects and not take a limited view as some people will. As result his comments and advice will be towards making contesting better overall and not focused towards how to make it better for a small group individuals. I think this would be the type of individual we would want on a advisory committee. He is well respected in the contesting community. I asked the chair of the CAC for his opinion on Randy. This is his comments "Randy is an interesting person and has a lot of gravitas. He has openly expressed support for the CAC in his social media posts. I think he would bring good input to the group and think he would be a good guy. " As for "super jock" Randy is one of the more approachable top level contester that is out there. We need to look past the road blocks people are throwing at this and look at the good things he could do for the CAC. I'm not keen on "interlocking directorates" and that's what you tend to get if you focus on the Top 10 (or 15, in our case) of Contesting (CAC) or DXing (DXAC). If the contesting community were bereft of others with good ideas, perhaps choosing Randy would be the best idea. But there are a gazillion active, committed contesters in each of our Divisions, so spreading the "wealth" would be my preference. How about going to YCCC (and any other contest clubs in New England) and asking them to submit 3-5 names for consideration? That might take longer, but some other good candidates might pop up. And "Thank you!" for inviting us to comment!
