3D mapping is here and improving. Some of the drone jobs I've been doing as a remote pilot in command are mapping using DJI Terra using their RTK system and LiDAR: https://www.dji.com/dji-terra Mostly for inspections but also inventory of assets. Many companies are working on versions of what is discussed; even if half of those companies efforts come to fruition, the future will effect a transitional jump.
If that occurs, whither goes Amateur Radio? At a minimum, every radio manufacturer will be behind the curve.
