I refrained from commenting on this but I really am disappointed that they didn’t do the research on Mr Grzyb.
There is serious question about his and his YL’s operation from Fiji, given that she allegedly doesn’t have a valid license. To boot, they allegedly operated from the harbor, which isn’t valid for DXCC. And this isn’t even for a rare entity. Photo evidence and investigation backs both of these claims up.
I mention this because Grzyb has tried to involve me in this to attempt to get the DXCC desk to approve his operation. After hearing the facts, I can confidently conclude that the DXCC desk took the right course of action by holding his operation until they can satisfy the documentation requirement (which will probably never happen but every operation deserves due process, while preserving the integrity of the DXCC program.)
So it’s a good concept of an article, but having worked closely with the WSJ and News Corp organization it seems as though they really haven’t done their due diligence and research. A real shame as they were much better before Rupert Murdoch acquired them. Now they are basically Fox News in print form, and that’s really not a flattering comment. The market data is still good but the news and human interest stories are trash.
Anyway here are some links for those who don’t quite understand what I’m talking about:
Thread on eHam:
Bernie also mentioned it on the Daily DX.
He also admitted to me that Joanna (his YL) doesn’t have a valid license and they planned to “apply when they got back.”
