Certainly I have no problem with people expressing their opinion, regardless of their position. However, where it impacts us, is when they write/call those we are trying to get on our side; and the impression on those who don't know enough about Amateur Radio, is that we can't get along with each other. That being said, I expect these folks (the preppers) to disappear in the near future. 73, Jim -----Original Message----- From: Mike Lisenco N2YBB [mailto:n2ybb@arrl.org] Sent: Thursday, November 12, 2015 9:17 AM To: Marty Woll <n6vi@socal.rr.com>; 'Northwestern Division Director - Jim K7CEX' <nwdvd@comcast.net>; 'arrl-odv' <arrl-odv-bounces@reflector.arrl.org> Subject: Re: [arrl-odv:24805] Re: Ham Radio Opposition Reading through the prepper material, it appears to me that the particular individual writing in opposition to the bill considers himself to be a libertarian. I would argue that his idea of freedom from any governmental intervention actually falls within the realm of anarchy. What I find disconcerting is the nearly religious zeal in which he explains his point of view. And, of course, his anonymity speaks volumes as well. I am glad that a number of individuals wrote in opposition to kilo-16. Unfortunately, you can't reason with the likes of him. I think any legislator who understands where this group of folks comes from will understand why this individual is opposed to any type of federal legislation regardless of intent. 73 de Mike N2YBB -----Original Message----- From: Marty Woll Sent: Thursday, November 12, 2015 10:49 AM To: 'Northwestern Division Director - Jim K7CEX' ; 'arrl-odv' Subject: [arrl-odv:24805] Re: Ham Radio Opposition If you encounter that question from your legislator, I would tell him or her that Amateur Radio is a cross-section of the entire population and, as such, includes some people who dislike or distrust the Federal government in general. Further, the author's solution to an HOA restriction appears to be to break the rule by putting up one or more stealth antennas. That kind of reaction speaks poorly for the underlying restriction, Also, I wonder why the author chooses not to disclose his or her callsign. In a quick search of the FCC database, I could find no licensee by that name. Might kilo-16 be a licensee using a pen name? In either case, I sense the author is hiding something. 73, Marty N6VI -----Original Message----- From: arrl-odv [mailto:arrl-odv-bounces@reflector.arrl.org] On Behalf Of Northwestern Division Director - Jim K7CEX Sent: Thursday, November 12, 2015 6:27 AM To: arrl-odv Subject: [arrl-odv:24804] Ham Radio Opposition In talking to one of our Representatives, I discovered a Prepper group actually opposing our efforts. The question to me was "why are Hams in opposition to the Bills". While I don't see much of an impact, I do believe we need to know who the other side is. https://www.amrron.com/2015/09/26/amateur-radio-parity-act-bad-for-liberty-b y-kilo-16/ During our fire season, this group went into a couple of towns and set up communications (self-deployed) but ended up doing some good. 73 and good Hamming Jim Pace, K7CEX ARRL the National Association for Amateur Radio Northwestern Division Director _______________________________________________ arrl-odv mailing list arrl-odv@reflector.arrl.org https://reflector.arrl.org/mailman/listinfo/arrl-odv _______________________________________________ arrl-odv mailing list arrl-odv@reflector.arrl.org https://reflector.arrl.org/mailman/listinfo/arrl-odv
