Last night I gave a talk on ARRL happenings to a San Diego area radio club. One of the major topics covered was HR 4969. A major opponent of HR 4969 is CAI, the Community Associations Institute. One of the radio club officers commented that he was president-elect of the San Diego CAI group, and that CAI has already committed $5 million to be used to defeat HR 4969. As an indication of the size of this opposition, he also commented that there were approximately 7,000 home owner associations in San Diego County, and 14,000 HOA's in Orange County. His involvement with CAI is connected to his property management business. He does not live in an HOA area himself, and has a tower and beam in his yard. He talked about trying to convince other CAI people that hams are good and antennas should be allowed, but reported essentially unanimous CAI opposition. As an aside, if I were to meet with with legislators or staff, I would certainly like to have descriptive copies of Amateur Radio's contributions, such as the *Report to America, *to leave behind.
