For background, I began to think about how we might honor ARRL HQ Staff for their effort, contributions, and devotion. At first I thought it would be good to do "something" for long-time employees who had passed away. After discussions with Diane Middleton, several of you, and, through Diane, some senior staff, it appears that the most meaningful thing to do is to recognize all of the staff at HQ. Diane proposed a bench to be placed in the staff outdoor lunch/break area appropriately annotated with recognition from board members.
So here's what I propose. Let's place a bench, as Diane suggested, and mark it with the following plaque or engraving: "In appreciation of ARRL staff, with gratitude for their dedication to furthering ARRL’s mission. ARRL Board of Directors. [insert date of dedication]."
The cost of the bench is about $3,000. I will guarantee that amount and given the long lead-times I asked Diane to proceed with ordering the stone. Since the bench is from the members of the board, please consider a donation (in any amount) to support this effort. The donation may be in the form of a check made out the ARRL with Staff Bench in the memo line.
