You'll find the story at: http://cbs6albany.com/news/local/local-high-school-students-chat-up-astronau... Other contacts supported during the week include a telebridge with students at Collège Jean Charcot, Saint Malo, France and a direct contact via R9HP with Tomsk Polytechnic University, in Tomsk, Russia. Amateur radio slow-scan images were transmitted from the ISS Service Module as part of the Moscow Aviation Institute MAI-75 education experiment. The transmissions were received by schools with ham radio stations and by ham operators and shortwave listeners in parts of Europe and Russia. Education & Technology Program Debra continues to work on finalizing the schedule for the Teachers Institute next summer, researching ad buys for publicity, managing the production of a video about the TI, and the development of revisions to the instructional boards used in the Teachers Institute. There will also be an election this winter in Iowa. Paul Cowley, KB7VML, of Ames, Iowa, has been nominated to run, and current Iowa Section Manager Bob McCaffrey, K0CY, has also been nominated to run for another term of office. Brent Boydston, KF5THB, of Henrietta, Texas, has been nominated run for the North Texas Section Manager's position, and he will face Jay Urish, W5GM, of McKinney, Texas. Chris Brewer, N5GMJ, who was previously nominated, decided to withdraw his nomination. James Ferguson, N5LKE, of Searcy, Arkansas, was the only Section Manager nominee. He will succeed Dale Temple, W5RXU, as Section Manager starting in April, 2017. Dale, who has been Section Manager since 2011, decided not to run for a new term of office. The following incumbent Section Managers were the only nominees in their respective sections after the December 9th deadline passed. Their new terms of office will also begin April 1, 2017: Malcolm Keown, W5XX (Mississippi); George Forsyth, AA7GS (Montana); Carl Gardenias, WU6D (Orange); Jack Mitchell, N7MJ (Wyoming). Field Services Reported by Dave Patton, NN1N On Saturday and Sunday, Dec 10 and 11, staffers Bob Allison, Kathy Allison, Dave Patton, Bob Inderbitzen, and Tom Gallagher travelled to Greenwich CT to commemorate the 95th anniversary of the first TransAtlantic signal reception by Amateurs in 1921. They were joined by N1ALF, N1BCG, WA1SFH, WV2ZOW, KB3WFV, NY3B, K9FJ to build a 3A Field Day style station in a school gymnasium with the goals of putting N1BCG into amateur logs around the world, making a push to activate the AM mode, and establish contact with GB2ZE in Ardrossan, Scotland, where the original first reception occurred. The BBC covered the event on the Scotland side with video, audio and interviews. In 1921, ARRL sent Paul Godley, 2ZE, over to Scotland with a fancy Armstrong receiver to listen to the week-long series of transmissions from 1BCG in Greenwich (and other transmitting stations mostly on the East Coast of the US.) Radio Club of America members built the station in Greenwich at the QTH of BCG. This event in 1921 was later called the world's first DX contest by W3LPL! Today's RCA also helped sponsor the special event sending its newly elected Vice President and a Board member, who both did a great job on the air. A total of 517 QSOs were logged using N1BCG through poor to fair conditions on 80, 40, 30, 20, 17 and 10 meters. Clark, N1BCG, who conceived this event and helped with the organization, obtained this call sign years ago to honor this significant event in the history of radio. Thanks to Tim Duffy, DXengineering, Joe Carcia, Mike Gruber, Sean Kutzko, Becky Schoenfeld, and Lindy Gallagher for their help in pulling-off this event. W1AW Reported by Joe Carcia, NJ1Q Joe updated the web code practice files and their archives, as well as the weekly CW code practice QST source web page. He also readied operating equipment - and constructed antennas for 80, 40, and 20 meters - that were used with the N1BCG Transatlantic Reception Anniversary Special Event (held on Sunday, December 11). Scott worked on fast and slow code practice texts for the upcoming week. He also processed VUCC certificates and endorsements. Media & Public Relations Reported by Sean Kutzko, KX9X PR Manager Sean, KX9X returned to work on December 9 after being hospitalized December 5. He will be taking it slow for the remainder of 2016. National Parks on the Air crested 975,000 QSOs over the December 10/11 weekend. IT is inevitable that NPOTA will reach 1 million contacts by 2016. Sean produced ARRL Audio News with Carla Pereira on December 9. He also distributed a press release concerning HR1301 not being passed in the 114th Congress, and ARRL's vow to push for it again in the 115th Congress. Membership Reported by Diane Petrilli, KB1RNF November ended with 164,453 members. This represents a loss of 601 members from October; a loss of 856 was forecast.
