Thanks, Jim. APC for SS is kind of like prohibition; a noble experiment but a complete failure and better done away with. The very few comments seem to agree. The larger problem seems to be the rather low level of interest in SS, which is evident from the comments filed so far: Proceeding Number Name of Filer Lawfirm Name Date Received Date Posted Exparte Type of Filing 10-62 ARRL, the national association for Amateur Radio Comments of ARRL (8) Booth, Freret, Imlay & Tepper, P.C. 06/14/2010 06/14/2010 No COMMENT 10-62 Floyd C.Fox Comments on Proceeding 10-62 (1) 05/19/2010 05/20/2010 No COMMENT 10-62 Benjamin Jackson View (1) 04/12/2010 04/14/2010 No COMMENT 10-62 Nickolaus E. FWIW, I doubt they will totally please everyone (nothing does); however, a couple of members with whom I spoke at a recent hamfest decided eliminating APC even if it cost us having maximum output power reduced to 10 w would be a very positive trade-off. Absent any other comments from GLD members on this NPRM so far, I suspect there won't be much grumbling even from SS aficionados if the Commission follows through with the power reduction. With the approval of the Executive Committee, President Craigie and EVP Sumner, I have today (the due date) filed the attached comments on the FCC's NPRM (based on ARRL's petition) to delete the automatic power control requirement for Spread Spectrum Amateur communications. Note that these comments grudgingly accept (for now) the FCC's proposal to reduce the maximum power level for SS from 100 watts to 10 watts, which was NOT part of ARRL's petition. Thanks to Kay and Dave Sumner for helpful edits to this document. There are, incidentally, very few comments filed so far in this docket. It is not anticipated at this time that reply comments will be needed, but we will see what trickles in. 73, Chris W3KD Christopher D. Imlay Booth, Freret, Imlay & Tepper.
