As the Garmin engineer in the article stated, retrofitting even very inexpensive filters into existing devices, in our case handhelds, would be very expensive and time consuming. The working group said installing new filters in GPS equipment used for aviation, for instance, would be very expensive and could take at least 10 years.") If you're REALLY interested in the subject go to http://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/ecfs/ and click on "Search for Filings." Then in the "Proceeding number" window enter "11-109" and you will find the reports broken up into 7 files totaling more than 1,000 pages.
While members of course want their GPS devices to continue to work, the principle of basing allocations decisions on receiver susceptibility to overload is very dangerous.
