I believe that, in the ARRL Board activities, it is inappropriate to address certain members by titles that they might use in other parts of their lives. This would include Doctor, Professor, Admiral, Major, Sargent, Scoutmaster, Mayor, Judge, or anything that differentiates them from the rest of their colleagues. All members of the Board are equals in the Boardroom. They deserve to be addressed equally. In the US Congress and the written Congressional Record members are addressed as Mr or Ms. When Newt Gingrich, PhD, was in the House, he was addressed as Mr Gingrich, not Dr Gingrich. In the Senate today, Raphael G. Warnock, PhD, the Senator from Georgia, is Mr Warnock, not Dr Warnock. Rand Paul, MD, is addressed as Mr Paul, not Dr Paul. Ham radio has a long history of addressing all participants equally, and in fact, by first name. Barry Goldwater was Barry to hams. King Hussein was Hussein. Those having achieved Doctor or other titles in fields unrelated to Amateur Radio can justly feel proud of those accomplishments, but in dealings with the Board and in the written minutes should not be addressed differently from the rest of their colleagues. 73, Dick, N6AA

If something is puboished, perhaps include a note that U.S. stations calling the DXpedition must observe the Part 97 phone and digital subbands. Most other countries don’t have subbands, so DXpeditions may very well legally operate outside our bands in phone and digital modes, but U.S. stations are prohibited from transmitting on those frequencies.) The email below – addressed to N2AJ (who has direct contact with the expedition by satellite radio) came across my screen earlier today. Then someone responded that the station on 18.112 may be a pirate …. 73, Dave K3ZJ _____________ Email 1 [TO:] Steve - N2AJ Are you aware that according to FCC rules (Part 97.305), stations in the USA are prohibited from operating RTTY or any of the digital modes in the 17M band above 18.110 MHz? 3Y0J is operating on 18.112 and so are its many Stateside callers, all operating illegally! Many stations are now calling up there and operating illegally. 18.110 is the highest 17M frequency that we can transmit on using the digital modes. It was my experience that this guidance maximized operators' enjoyment and likelihood of success--and eventually had a positive impact on ARRL's bottom line when DXCC applications came in. Such guidance is conspicuously absent for the ongoing 3Y0J effort, with no mention whatsoever on either the front page of the Web site, in the ARRL Letter, or, so far as I can tell, in social media. I believe the absence of guidance contributes in significant part to the unpleasant experience on the air, both for the Bouvet team and the rest of the world. I try very hard to disengage from the operation and governance of ARRL beyond the maintenance of my membership and asking questions when they need to be asked to maintain membership services. I cannot here. To All, You may remember Brennan Price N4QX, the former Chief Technology Officer of the ARRL. Brennan lives in my Division, and we had the discussion below my signature. Information about the Bouvet DXpedition has been conspicuously absent from news coverage by the ARRL. This is the #2 most wanted DX entity according to Clublog.
