Greetings, Here's an anonymous exchange I had with an old friend, on the distribution of membership pins: He said: "I received a 40 year service pin from ARRL yesterday. It cost a lot of money to send these out, for no apparent reason. I figure the pin and printed packing cost $3.00 and the postage was $2.65. That is about $5.65 of members dues for each ‘award’. Please pass along my strong negative reaction a large waste of ARRL funds. For sure, I now see NO reason to donate monies to ARRL and further subsidize poor membership programs." I replied: "Most folks seem to have appreciated receiving unsolicited recognition of their long-time support of the League, but I can understand your concern. I'll share it with the Directors and Officers, and see if there are others who have shared that view with them." He replied: "Thanks, seems like the money can be better spent. Or, ARRL has too much money?" -------------------------------------------------------------------------- I told him that I would share this, and see if anyone had received similar comments. He's a good guy, and generally supports the League. This just goes to show that "you can't please everyone, all of the time." I would be interested to learn of any other comments. Bob, Not to discount your friendship with him, but in this case he is an “outlier”. This is but a small token of our appreciation for our loyal members. Shipping costs have risen quite a bit in the last 40 years. It is what it is. As a contrast to his calculation of $5.65, QST single issue cost is $6.95 without shipping, and over 40 years, that comes to 480 issues. Some just like to complain, and try to justify reasons not to donate to a worthy organization like the ARRL. Good Afternoon- As I reported you you on Saturday, we were queued up and ready to begin the next round of Grass-Root emails to all 100 U.S. Senators. The RallyCongress site went live yesterday. As of 9 am this morning, 1546 messages gave been processed. 41 states and 82 offices included. Please send an email out to your Division asking that all participate in the campaign.
