Okay, now I'm bored on the air -- same for a zillion other League members and hams across the world. Fair warning: I'm making a Director's motion in January to create a Centennial QSO Party Anonymous or Points Anonymous service, because lots of people now find themselves staring hopelessly at their now absolutely quiet radios. A huge THANK YOU to everyone -- ODV, staff, volunteers, members, hams -- for an absolute home run on the air this past year. Centennial celebration aside, if there is one thing that I hope everyone who participated in the QSO Party walked away with, it is that they became better and more dedicated radio operators throughout the year. That they used this year-long opportunity to learn more about themselves as an op, learned more about their gear, uncovered station and operating limitations and found ways to resolve them, and rediscovered the magic, fun (God forbid), and camaraderie that is ham radio. One very profound moment today was working a few folks in the QSO Party who I hadn't worked since back in January 1, 2014. Staring at that date in the log, and greeting those hams once again, with literally one year of time padding our last QSO was an in-your-face "this year has absolutely flown by way too fast" epiphany. I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as they could while it lasted. Happy Centennial, and Happy New Year everyone. Ballots were counted today in the Atlantic Division Director and Vice Director and the Great Lakes Division Vice Director elections, with Dakota Division Director Greg Widin, K0GW observing at the offices of Survey & Ballot Systems in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. The results are as follows: ATLANTIC DIVISION DIRECTOR Tom Abernethy, W3TOM 1400 Phil Theis, K3TUF 1168 Mr. Abernethy is declared elected. So far, I'm aware of Dale Williams's contact with his Congressman and a number of messages sent by Mike Lisenco to Congressional offices he lobbied last year. The results of those two Directors' contacts have been encouraging and productive. I also know that Mike and Dick Isely plan to visit the Hill late this month for in-person advocacy. I have written my Congressman's office but so far have nothing back other than a pro forma acknowledgement. The plan is to get the bill introduced in the House by the end of this month, so efforts to get more original co-sponsors are timely. Congress is out of session until the 24th, but contacts can be made with staff and with local district offices. Please act now to contact Congressmen from your district, state, and/or Division who were co-sponsors last year or who may be receptive now. Dan Henderson will help you in any way possible, as will TKG. Congressman Kinzinger's office plans to distribute a "Dear Colleague" letter to fellow members of the House explaining what the legislation is and promoting support. I do not know at this moment if this will be a joint letter from both Congressman Kinzinger and Congressman Courtney or from Kinzinger only. The text of the letter was drafted by Chris and reviewed by Dave, TKG, and me. It's ready to go as soon as we have a bill number to fill in the blanks. This letter lays important groundwork for future contacts. Finally, because it is our understanding that the bill will be dropped in the hopper by the end of the month, a conference call open to everyone on this reflector with TKG has been scheduled for Monday, March 2, at 9 PM Eastern time. The Repeater Directory was sent to the printer. Lab Reported by Ed Hare, W1RFI Product Review Bob Allison and Steve Ford produced two Product Review Videos for Digital QST. Since the topic was Software Defined Transceivers, the large video monitor in the Lab came in handy, since one of the transceivers can display eight receivers at the same time. Travel Bob Allison will be traveling to Vermont this weekend for two speaking engagements at Ham-Con in Burlington, Vermont. In one forum, Bob will explain the work the ARRL Lab does for ARRL members; the other forum will be about, "What do all those numbers mean?" Attendees will learn how to interpret QST Product Review Data Tables. QST Product Reviews help to answer the question, "What radio should I buy"? W1HQ The new 70 bcm DMR Motorola MotoTurbo repeater is currently operating at reduced power, as the SWR is quite high-the antenna won't be looked at until weather improves. Epubs Zack Lau has been helping folks migrate from the old exam review CDs to the new exam web site. Field Services & Radiosport Reported by Dave Patton, NN1N Field Organization/Public Service Team Joseph Palsa, K3WRY, has been appointed Virginia Section Manager as of February 20 to complete the current term of office that continues until March 31, 2016. Joe, from Richmond, succeeds Carl Clements, W4CAC, of Portsmouth, who has stepped down due to increased work commitments. Dave Patton, NN1N, made the appointment of Palsa in consultation with Roanoke Division Director Dr Jim Boehner, N2ZZ. Carl Clements had been the Virginia Section Manager since 2008, and he also had served in the post from 2001 until 2006. A number of interference type reports were received this past week, and they are being investigated. One involved interference on 7268 kHz to the Waterway Net. After monitoring the net, the most likely explanation was that an Asian jamming station was targeting a shortwave broadcast station on 7270 kHz. Several instances of interference to the YLSSB Net on 14332 kHz were reported. Other problem frequencies involved 3843, 7185, and 14313 kHz. A report of an unlicensed individual transmitting on local repeaters and later leaving threats via voice mail was reported, and this is being followed up on in Western New York. Chuck Skolaut fielded questions about operating close to band edges and the wording of net preambles. I'm receiving, for some number of weeks, *many* duplicate copies of e-mails sent from addresses similar to <MicrosoftExchange329e71ec88ae4615bbc36ab6ce41109e(a)arrl.org> Is anyone else experiencing this duplicate copy bombardment? What is the reason for these e-mails, and how do I arrange to no longer receive them? Thanks, Bob -- W6RGG

Dan Henderson sent me following message this afternoon. For new people on the ODV, when we meet with members of Congress and/or their staff persons, we provide them electronically with a list of licensees in their district taken from the FCC database. This list is truly useful to the member of Congress only if he or she becomes a co-sponsor. The FCC database is a matter of public record, so there's no problem providing the information to the Congressional offices. We can't provide lists of ARRL members because of our 501(c)(3) status. Because the number of licensees is typically larger than the number of ARRL members, the restriction in this case works to our advantage in convincing members of Congress that there's a non-trivial number of hams in their districts. Dan's message refers to Directors and Vice Directors, but of course Officers can get the information also. When you are able to schedule a meeting with a member of Congress or staff person in the home district during a time when Congress isn't in session, just shoot an e-mail to Dan and he'll get you the list of licensees or, if you prefer, he can send it directly to the Congressional staffer whose e-mail address you provide to him. These lists really make an impression. 73 -- Kay N3KN ======== Dan wrote: In preparation for the introduction of the Amateur Radio Parity Act by Mr. Kinzinger, I have double checked that I am ready to quickly generate the digital lists of FCC licensees in each congressional district, as well as each state. Any Director or Vice-Director who needs that list can simply drop me an email and I can turn it around quickly. We do scrub the lists for club calls, which gives us a more accurate count of actual licensees. That list is drawn directly from that day's current ULS database so it is very up-to-date. I just got an email from a member saying that the website is down. I had been using it about 45 minutes ago and it was working. I just tried it and it doesn't resolve. As the member and I both use Comcast, I unsuccessfully tried via my phone (Verizon) to be sure it isn't a Comcast issue-it's not. On one refresh, I did get a 503 error: Service Temporarily Unavailable The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems.
