Sales and Marketing Reported by Bob Inderbitzen, NQ1R Jackie Ferreira prepared publication promotions, distributed to members, lapsed members, and guest website users during these days before the Christmas holiday. There were 438 orders received over the Dec 19-20 weekend (vs. 354 during the same weekend last year). Additionally, Jackie prepared emails to help promote the ARRL Visa credit card and AmazonSmile programs. Now Shipping: Small Antennas for Small Spaces, new 2nd Edition. Diane Petrilli reports that a membership campaign mailed on Friday, December 11. The first mailing of 2016 is set to mail January 15. A handful of emails were sent to targeted groups of prospective members-returning 230+ membership applications this month. Holiday-themed emails have also been sent. One campaign, promoting ARRL family membership, was emailed to members where there are likely other radio amateurs in the same household. The Executive Committee has approved the 2016 National Convention program. The convention is being hosted by Orlando HamCation, February 12-14. Dave Sumner will give the keynote address<http://www.arrl.org/news/arrl-ceo-david-sumner-k1zz-to-keynote-arrl-nationa…> at the National Convention banquet on Saturday, February 13. HamCation has reported that advance ticket sales are excellent. This is their 70th Anniversary show. Diane Petrilli has completed membership materials for the convention, and is preparing badges and polo shirts for the ARRL team. Bob Inderbitzen participated in a meeting with representatives from US Bank to review our marketing and promotion for the ARRL Visa credit card program. ARRL's year to date earnings for the program are ~$36K through October. Diane Middleton has scheduled the annual physical inventory for Monday, January 4. Diane has organized teams, including staff from the warehouse and fulfillment groups, to conduct the inventory counts. The auditors will review the inventory on Tuesday, January 5. No fulfillment will take place during the inventory and audit. Normal shipping should resume on Wednesday, January 6. These were sent to our local Newington printer. The mailing deadline for the section election ballots is Monday, January 4. Many Section Managers have been sending in their final section expense reports for 2015. Leona has been handling these before turning them over to our accounting department so that they may process and mail out the reimbursement checks. Steve Ewald completed work on the Field Organization Reports column for February QST. We were informed of a recent FCC action regarding station W6WBJ. Chuck Skolaut handled questions this past week about antenna zoning, Echolink operation, taking talkies along in carry-on luggage on flights, and overseas operation. Reports of interference to the East Cars Net on 7255 kHz were received and documentation was provided the FCC. Several more complaints were received about an operation on 7200 kHz, 7255 kHz and 3843 kHz. An unidentified pulse type signal was heard on 7004 kHz and 7074 kHz, and our volunteer monitors are checking on it. Chuck also ran one morning code practice run at W1AW. Good Afternoon: The IRS has finally announced the standard mileage rates to be used to calculate the deductible costs of operating an automobile for business and charitable purposes in 2016. Longstanding ARRL policy states that we use the business rate determined by the IRS as the rate for reimbursement of mileage incurred by staff and volunteers in service to the organization. Accordingly, the rate for reimbursement for mileage incurred in 2016 will be $0.54 per mile. This is a reduction of three and one-half cents from the 2015 rate. For those interested, the mileage rate used for calculating deductions for charitable purposes is unchanged at $0.14 per mile. Attached is the expense reimbursement form to be used for all expenses incurred beginning on January 1, 2016 which reflects the new rate. Please let me know if you have any questions. 73, Barry J. All: The Controller's Department has completed the implementation and testing of automated reimbursement via ACH (Automated Clearing House) transactions for expense reimbursements. Members of the A&F Committee were used as beta test subjects for this and we've been able to work out the bugs. If you would like to receive expense reimbursement deposited directly to your bank account in the future, please follow the five steps below: 1) Complete and sign the attached form and return to dmiddleton(a)arrl.org<mailto:dmiddleton@arrl.org> or fax to 860-594-0298. 2) Wait for a system generated e-mail notifying you of the test transaction for about $0.10. 3) Confirm the receipt of the deposit with your bank. 4) Notify Diane Middleton at dmiddleton(a)arrl.org<mailto:dmiddleton@arrl.org> that you received both the e-mail and test deposit. 5) Then, simply wait for your next expense reimbursement notification and direct deposit. Please note that if you elect ACH reimbursements, all payments will be made by ACH. In addition, all personal banking information will be handled in accordance with appropriate privacy laws and ARRL internal policies. If you have any questions, please contact Diane Middleton, KC1BQF, directly and she will be happy to help. This represents a gain from October of 380 members; a gain of 186 was forecasted. The on-time renewal rate for November is 70.93% vs. 70.07% last November. Acquisition by direct mail and e-mail has been high. Jackie Ferriera reports that November product sales were $271,360, falling short of the sales forecast of $299,155. Direct sales were $177,515; dealer sales were $93,845. Direct sales are up considerably; 86% over November 2014-partially the result of very successful "Black Friday" Thanksgiving week promotions. Royalties earned on sales of our Kindle e-books were $6,235 ($5,620 last month). Yvette Vinci prepared the email notification for the January 2016 digital edition of QST, distributed to ARRL members on Friday, December 11. The distribution list included 122,328 members. We processed 32 paid-in-full Life Memberships and 44 Life Membership pledges in November. "Reminder letters" were sent to 528 members making quarterly payments toward Life Membership. 488 orders were received on Cyber Monday, November 30. These orders were fulfilled during the first week of December. Warehouse Supervisor Steve Capodicasa reports that a record breaking dealer order was processed during the first week of December; 117 Cartons comprising 4,000 lbs of books. The station's DXCC entity number had been stuck at 330 current entities for almost two years. When the latest Willis Island operation (VK9WA) uploaded their logs to LoTW, W1AW was able to apply for Honor Roll. Joe Carcia updated the web code practice files and their archives. He processed regular QSL card requests. Joe cut the various lengths of coaxial and rotor cables for the ARISS Go-Kit in preparation for connector installation. He also worked the early afternoon/nights shifts on Monday and Tuesday for the vacationing Scott Gee. Scott Gee processed some VUCC applications and certificates. He also worked on fast and slow code practice runs texts for the week. Field Organization Weekly Report Jim Fortney, K6IYK, of Camarillo, California, was elected as the new Section Manager for Santa Barbara when ballots were counted on November 23. Jim Fortney has been active in Field Organization leadership roles for many years. Jim's term of office begins on January 1, 2016. Jim's opponent in this election was incumbent Section Manager Robert Griffin, K6YR, of San Luis Obispo. At the end of this year, Rob Griffin will be concluding his twentieth year at the helm of the ARRL Santa Barbara Section. Rob first became Section Manager on January 1, 1996. He is also the Chair of the ARRL National Traffic System's Pacific Area Staff, and his Amateur Radio station serves as the primary station for the West Coast ARRL Code Proficiency Certificate Program. The following incumbent Section Managers did not face opposition in this fall season's election cycle, and they will continue with new terms of office starting January 1, 2016: Bill Duveneck, KB3KYH (Delaware); Jim Latham, AF6AQ (East Bay); Ron Cowan, KBØDTI (Kansas); Larry Camp, WB8R (Michigan); Edward James, KA8JMW (New Mexico); Keith Miller, N9DGK (Tennessee); Ed Emco, W1KT (Western Massachusetts). The Alabama and Alaska Sections Manager positions will be resolicited in January QST because no nomination petitions were received by the deadline of September 4, 2015. Leona Adams reports that there will be three Section Manager elections this winter season in the Pacific Section, the San Diego Section and the Virginia Section. Preparations for the upcoming elections are continuing. In addition, the following incumbent Section Managers, who submitted petitions to run for re-election, were declared elected for new terms of office starting April 1, 2016, when no other candidates were nominated by the December 4 receipt deadline. Pete Cecere, N2YJZ (Eastern Pennsylvania); Joe Ames, W3JY (Eastern Pennsylvania); Karl Bowman, W4CHX (North Carolina); Chris Stallkamp, WØAZD (South Dakota). Scott Wren, KD5DFL, of Pineville, Louisiana, was the only candidate to submit a nominating petition by the receipt deadline. Therefore, Scott will become the new Louisiana Section Manager on April 1, 2016. Incumbent SM Jim Molan, KD5IGG, decided not to run for another term of office. One radio amateur from Arizona and one from Eastern New York successfully completed requirements to become Official Observers this past week. We received a supporting recommendation for an International Humanitarian Award nominee. We received several comments on proposed changes to the 80 meter band plan. Chuck Skolaut reports that interference reports this past week included one on 75 meters during a recent contest, someone sending CW over the 40 and 75 meter AM calling frequencies, and one regarding interference to a 40 meter net in the EPA section. Questions this week included RST reporting, proper ID for a "Santa special event," third party rules and the operation of a station operating on 28425.
