In the March QST editorial, I talked about the benefit of the memory God gave us. Today, I was reminded why it is sometimes good to forget things. I received my copy of the March/April NCJ. Look on page 25. I had some pajama pants on this morning that looked a lot like some of the dress pants in that classic "70's" photo. Jim Cain always looked the same! Kim and I had a good laugh reminiscing when we saw the picture (I'm not in the photo, but I remember well that period of time.....K5UR looked a lot like some of those guys back then!!!!!!!!) 73 W5ZN

Since I've had one question arise already, let me clarify one thing. If you are attending the Dayton Hamvention on your own and would like to volunteer in the ARRL Expo area, you are most welcome to do so and I know Bob Inderbitzen would welcome the help. It's just not required. I want to make sure everyone understands the travel policy for attending this year's Dayton Hamvention as it relates to League expense. Even though we are producing another "ARRL Expo" at Dayton, it is NOT an ARRL National Convention this year. Therefore, travel reimbursement at League expense is not authorized and there will be no reimbursement for expenses related to your attendance even if it were to be charged to your division allocation. Hi, Some quick updates and follow ups: 1. LOTW, with the WAS Award fully implemented, will be launched next Monday, March 20, 2006. Dave S, Wayne, Eileen and I saw a demo of it today and Jon is just about finished. He is adding a few last minute features and corrections. We could have launched it this week, but we did not want to conflict with the "Hello" campaign launch. 2. Hugh Brower is working on granting all of you access to the web statistics that I sent out last week. 3. Thanks to Maria's inquiries, the FCC has given us permission to batch process Vanity calls. So, barring any unexpected bureaucratic pronouncements, we will begin processing them shortly. We are working on projections, processes etc before we make a formal announcement, although we did mention it briefly in last week's newsletter. 4. Our new Membership Manager, Katie Breen, started this morning. We are not announcing this on the web or newsletter just yet. There were some very nasty and personal comments both in email and on other web sites the last time that we posted that this position was filled. This past weekend the Executive Committee held a very productive meeting in St. Louis, addressing a number of items and working down our action item list. One thing I want to report now is the EC finalized the draft TOR for the initial phase of our band planning process. There are some modifications to be made to the draft based on the meeting discussion. When that is completed in the next few days it will go back to the EC for email approval then be distributed to the board for approval by email so we can get the process in place before the July meeting. The basic details are that an initial committee will be made up of six members; four from the Director/Officer/Vice Director ranks and two from staff. The initial phase will be to assemble and review the existing HF band plans and outline the process for phase 2 that will include possibly an expanded committee and solicitation from the amateur community. Again, I want to emphasize this is the initial phase, and the details and TOR will be sent to you for review in the very near future. 73 Joel W5ZN
