The Weekly DX notes that starting April 1 (no April Fool's) amateur stations in Norway can start using the 7100 - 7200 KHz segment on a secondary basis, with a 100 W power limit. Its good to see Norway taking an early step in this direction by allowing LA radio amateurs to start using the "new" 100 KHz segment on a limited basis. 73 Joel W5ZN

22 MAR, 2004 - 1740 CST Hello Kay... Yes I found it curious that Bill Hartzell, KB3COP does not mention amateur radio as one of his interests on that web site. If he ever got on the air, I'm betting he never progressed much beyond the VHF handi-talkie stage. What irritates me, is that he gives the impression in his WSJ letter that he is an active ham and knows a lot about RF propagation physics. If the BPL advocates contact him and try to get him to expand on his anti-ARRL, pro-BPL comments, perhaps somebody in the Philadelphia area should obliquely point out (after proper supporting research) that KB3COP may not know what he is talking about. 73 - Dick

Neither I nor another Philly-area ham who lives in the city (I'm out in the 'burbs) and knows a lot of people can recall having met KB3COP, who seems never to have been an ARRL member. KB3COP would have been issued in 1998. Some insight may come from the self-description at http://www.writers.net/writers/6161 Among his listed interests, ham radio does not appear. At least I think it was Saturday night. My mother doesn't let me stay up late enough to listen to the show. A local I worked on 75 this morning told me he listened to the show and found it interesting and was very happy that Jim was out there letting the world know at the threat of BPL.
